Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the secret behind all of your great treatment results?
Balancing the Yin Yang inside the body; so in turn, the body can heal itself.
Why do you call it Yin Yang Medicine?
Because
whatever
we
do,
whether
it’s
administering
a
treatment,
prescribing
a
set
of
essential
exercises,
or
suggesting
a
particular
dietary
adjustment
-
our
objective is to balance yin yang imbalances.
How soon will it work?
A
positive
change
will
be
realised
during
or
immediately
following
a
treatment.
It can take a couple of days for a treatment’s full effects to kick-in
How many treatments will I need to have?
That’s
like
asking
how
long
is
a
piece
of
string.
That
depends
on
so
many
factors. But as a rule of thumb –
If
it
is
a
minor
complaints
it
will
take
2-3
sessions.
Sometimes
one
visit
will
do
the
trick.
If
it
is
a
moderately
severe
or
persistent
complaint
it
will
take
5
-
6
sessions.
If it is very severe it will take a minimum of 6-8 treatments.
If
it
is
life
threatening
–
it
will
take
constant
care
for
an
intense
10
day
period
–
live-in
situation,
in
some
cases
several
treatments
per
day;
followed
by
regular
treatment and then maintenance and monitoring.
How often will I need to come for treatment?
Generally
2
-3
times
a
week
for
a
few
weeks.
For
critical
or
very
serious
problems
in
some
cases
daily,
or
twice
a
day
-
this
intensive
treatment.
Some
patients need to live-in for 10 days at our healthcare centre.
As
we
monitor
your
response
at
the
end
of
each
session
we
will
be
able
to
advise you on a recommended follow-up treatment.
What are the advantages of yinyang needling over acupuncture?
We
balance
the
energy
systems
differently
to
acupuncture.
Our
theory
and
practices
are
very
different.
We
don’t
wish
to
get
into
controversy
with
acupuncture
or
traditional
chinese
medicine
practitioners.
Best
you
be
the
judge –try us out and compare. That’d be fair.
Your
activity
and
relaxation
Therapy
-
is
it
similar
to
exercise
physiology
–
what is the point of difference?
It’s
quite
different,
with
some
very
unique
concepts.
The
exercises
are
very
different.
These
ancient
movements
are
intriguing
to
practise,
especially
in
the
mobilisation
of
weight
inside
the
body.
Some
activities
are
very
subtle
but
bring rapid improvement.
It
works
from
the
view-point
of
balancing
Yin
and
Yang
within
the
body
and
it’s
relationship
to
activities.
The
sciences
are
very
different.
We
get
some
very
good results.
Do you treat children?
We
needle
children
12
years
and
older.
Children
below
12
years
are
not
usually
needled
–
unless
they
have
a
life-threatening
condition.
Although
we
don’t
needle
them,
we
can
most
definitely
address
health
problems
affecting
infants
and
young
children
with
the
other
YinYang
Medicines
-
to
which,
children respond very well.
Why don’t you needle children?
The
points
aren’t
properly
functioning
until
approximately
12
years
of
age.
To
needle
points
may
have
serious
consequences
for
that
child
later
in
life,
making
changes
to
their
growth
in
unpredictable
ways.
It
is
not
a
good
practise.
Can I claim Yinyang medicine from my health fund?
Currently
you
can’t
claim
it
sorry.
We
are
working
on
that
at
the
moment.
Bear
in
mind
that
our
treatments
are
very
strong
and
they
work
rapidly
–
so
you
won’t need too many treatments.
Will I require maintenance treatment?
In
more
serious
cases
,
some
maintenance
treatment
is
scheduled
-
but
usually not very much because the problems are sorted.
Is there a money back guarantee if it doesn’t fix me?
No guarantees are offered.
Do you have to believe in it for it to work?
No,
because
it
is
based
on
a
real
science;
it
just
happens
to
be
an
ancient
science
that
was
not
arrived
at
via
our
type
of
thought,
traditions,
scientific
institutions or universities but via ancient and foreign ones.
Is it all in the mind?
No.
One
of
our
practitioners
challenged
very
sceptical
person
to
use
their
will
power
to
bring
back
the
headache
after
we
got
rid
of
it
during
a
YinYang
Needling session – but they couldn’t …try as they might.
Will it work if I send a relative who is very sceptical?
Yes
(assuming
the
problem
is
treatable
with
Yin
Yang
Medicine),
we
love
sceptics.
They
become
our
best
advocates.
One
of
our
current
students
started
as
a
sceptical
patient
and
within
a
few
months
jumped
at
the
chance
to
study it.
How does needling produce therapeutic effects?
Needling
a
combination
of
points
creates
a
change
in
the
behaviour
within
the
BioChi energy systems.
We
target
the
BioChi
energy
(different
types
of
yin
yang
energy)
imbalances
that
are
responsible
for
the
problem/s;
and
the
BioChi
energy
impacted
on
by
the problem.
How would I know if I need Yin Yang Medicine?
If you are unwell in any way or you have an injury or are in pain
How many treatments will I need as compared to acupuncture?
We
get
great
results
quickly.
Acupuncture
is
so
variable
from
practitioner
to
practitioner I couldn’t comment.
Is the YinYang Needling you do like the dry needling that the physios do?
The
concept
behind
dry
needling
is
one
very
small
piece
of
the
entire
needling
medicine.
We
use
many
additional
procedures
and
remedial
principles
that
give
YinYang
needling
much
greater
potential
in
when
dealing
with
injury
and
pain.
Do you diagnose?
Yes,
we
diagnose
yin
yang
imbalances.
It
is
very
different
to
a
medical
diagnosis
where
during
the
initial
interview
of
the
patient,
a
Doctor
does
differential
diagnoses
on
Joan
questioning
her
about
her
symptoms
in
order
confirm
that
she
has
such
and
such
a
medical
condition
–
which
requires
a
specific course of medication or medical treatment.
We
are
qualified
to
do
yin
yang
differential
diagnosis.
If
Joan
comes
to
visit
us
after
seeing
the
doctor,
we
question
her
about
her
health…but
we
are
diagnosing
yin
yang
imbalances
only;
our
objective
is
not
to
classify
their
symptoms list /health problem as such and such a medical condition.
If
during
the
consultation
Joan
reports
that
the
doctor
says
I
have
such
and
such disease, that fact does not have any bearing on our diagnosis.
How do you diagnose yinyang imbalances?
We
look
for
tell-tale
signs
of
general
and
then
specific
imbalances.
We
look
for
it,
we
listen
for
it.
How
the
patient
enters
our
rooms.
The
loudness
of
their
voice,
their
attitude,
eye
contact,
how
the
illness
is
expressed.
We
ask
questions
to
weigh
all
things
pertaining
to
their
clients
health
on
the
‘scales
of
yin& yang’.
We
observe
the
degree
of
deviation
from
a
perfect
or
true
line
or
measure
of
what
they
should
be
like
in
an
ideal
state
of
health
activity
for
their
body.
From
that
reference
line
we
can
calculate
the
nature
and
the
amount
of
the
imbalance.
How do you know what to treat?
We
ask
questions
to
determine
the
nature
of
the
health
problem
in
yin
yang
terms
only.
Once
we
have
found
the
yin
yang
imbalance
owned
by
the
patient,
that
imbalance
is
what
we
treat.
Please
note,
yin-yang
imbalances
do
not
have an equivalent in western medical terms.
What is Yin and Yang?
Yin
and
yang
is
the
law
of
relative
opposites.
It
is
a
science,
used
to
make
meaningful
observations,
comparisons,
make
sense
of,
and
deductions
from;
complex
variables.
We
measure
the
ratios
of
contrasting
or
relative
values
of
yin and yang / opposites for any given disease, injury or person.
Here
are
some
examples
of
yin-yang
opposites.
Use
of
the
environment
-
town
&
country;
a
cup
–
full
&
empty;
seasons:
summer
&
winter,
building
maintenance
-
construction
&
deconstruction;
payment
rates
-
increase
&
reduce;
mannerisms
-
sluggish
is
more
yin
while
over-excited
is
more
yang.
These are all measurable opposites.
Loud,
explosive
or
strong
are
more
yang;
while
quiet,
collapsing,
weak
are
more yin.
Yin and yang are not absolutes notice…they are comparisons of ratios.
Are things either Yin or Yang?
There
is
always
a
varying
ratio
of
yin
AND
yang.
And
there
is
no
such
thing
as
absolutely
hot
or
absolute
cold.
Hot
cannot
exist
without
some
cold.
There
must
be
an
amount
of
yin
in
the
yang,
and
visa
versa,
for
each
to
exist.
The
small
amount
of
cool
(yin)
in
the
blazing
red
hot-iron
allows
the
heat
(yang)
to
exist…without the yin the yang could not exist.
All things have structure-yin; and function-yang.
There are always complementary forces at work. It is a natural law.
The
principle
of
yinyang
does
not
apply
to
absolutes.
Absolutes
are
either
one
thing or the other.
What are absolutes?
Absolutes
are
moral
or
spiritual
principles.
Respect,
love,
purity,
honesty,
truthfulness, and contentment are absolutes.
You
either
have
respect
or
disrespect.
There
is
not
a
bit
of
respect
in
disrespect
or
a
bit
of
disrespect
in
respect
you
either
have
one
or
the
other
operating…never both together. Respect does not need disrespect to exist.
This makes them absolutes and not under the law of yin and yang.
What does the yin yang symbol represent?
Yin
and
yang
symbol
represents
the
concept
that
everything
is
tending
towards balance.
I’ve
heard
this
type
of
medicine
is
an
occult
practice,
and
you
are
soothsayers
– is that true?
Absolutely not. It is a science and a craft.
Are there spiritualistic or esoteric forces at play during a treatment?
No. BioChi practitioners are scholars, not magicians or occultists.
What do you need for successful yin yang diagnosis?
Common
sense
and
practical
experience
in
life
is
very
important.
Also
not
being too theoretical.
How do you see yin and yang?
We
can
look
at
the
world,
and
we
look
to
understand
disease
through
the
eyes
of
yin
and
yang.
It
is
really
a
science
and
an
art
form...
in
the
same
way
horticulturist
looks
through
the
eyes
of
biology
&
botany
at
plants;
and
there
is
a
real
art
in
applying
that
understanding
when
working
with
all
the
variations
that
one
species
of
plants
can
have
from
place
to
place,
season
to
season,
and at different stages of its life.
A
person
unlearned
in
horticultural
sciences
won’t
see
the
working
or
the
how
&
why
–
although
the
beauty
of
the
plant
can
be
appreciated
and
felt
by
the
learned and unlearned alike.
The
concept
of
Yin
and
Yang
can
be
used
for
viewing
all
phenomena
such
as
the
structure
&
function
and
the
behaviour
of
natural
laws
in
living
things.
It
is
an applied thought or concept, not a belief structure.
It
is
like
how
people
with
different
disciplines
of
thinking
focus
on
different
aspects
of
natural
phenomena.
If
an
engineer,
a
biologist
and
a
propulsion
specialist
were
all
given
the
task
to
study
the
behaviour
of
a
dolphin;
the
engineer
will
view
it
from
a
structural
perspective,
the
biologist
will
view
it
from
a
biological
perspective,
while
the
propulsion
specialist
would
view
it
from
the
propulsion perspective – all correct, just different view of the dolphin.
All
living
and
inanimate
objects
have
yin
and
yang
elements
with
their
makeup
and it can be seen if you look from a yin yang perspective.
Can you give me an example of yin yang balance at work inside the body?
Take
heat
and
cold
for
example.
A
healthy
person’s
body
tries
to
maintain
the
body
temperature
at
36.6°C
by
adapting
to
changes
in
the
environment,
thanks
to
changes
in
the
internal
yin
yang
balance.
As
more
extreme
changes
take
place
the
internal
yin
and
yang
balance
adjusts
keep
it
within
safe
temperature range (and narrow) temperature range of approx. 35.5 – 37.°C.
How do you work out the yin yang imbalance?
We
have
to
establish
the
perfect
or
true
line
for
each
person
to
make
measurements
form.
It’s
like
zeroing
a
set
of
weighing
scales
before
you
can
make
a
true
measurement
of
an
items
weight.
We
zero
our
‘yin
yang
scales’
for
the
person
by
estimating
what
their
body
should
be
like
with
perfect
health
-
it
is
seen
be
examining
their
body
proportions
and
characteristics
relative
to
each
other.
From
this
straight
line
edge
guide,
we
can
then
measure
the
deviation
or
the
amount
of
yin
yang
imbalance.
Each
person
has
their
own
true line to measure from. It is only relative to them.
This
true
line
(a
perfect
balance
of
yin
yang
in
all
of
their
BioChi
energy)
is
very
different
in
an
old,
muscular,
tradesman
as
compared
to
a
young,
skinny,
gamester night-owl.
What
might
be
a
yang
feature
in
the
older
guy
–
heat
&
restlessness,
would
be
a
normal
feature
in
the
younger
guy.
The
true
line
of
measurement
applies
only to the individual and not a standard applied to people across the board.
Is disease a yin yang imbalance?
Yes
and
no.
A
virus
is
not
an
imbalance…but
if
the
health
is
unbalanced
the
person
will
have
less
resistance
to
the
virus
than
someone
with
a
more
perfect
yin
yang
balance.
If
the
virus
takes
hold,
the
illness
will
produce
yin
yang
imbalances;
as
will
getting
a
chill.
Most
conditions
come
about
solely
from
yin
and yang imbalances.
Can you explain how yin and yang imbalance causes disease?
We say – life lived, is energy produced.
One
disease
produces
a
hot
condition
which
is
more
yang
and
while
another
produces
cold
which
is
more
yin.
When
yin
and
yang
get
out
of
balance
there
is
a
dominance
of
one
above
another
..if
the
health
problem
causes
a
great
loss
of
yin
then
yang
–type
BioChi
energies
will
dominate
and
there
will
not
be
enough
yin
to
return
the
body
back
to
a
balanced
state
over
time.
If
in
this
state
of
yang
dominance
the
person
keep
consuming
too
many
yang
foods
like
oranges,
coffee
and
hot
spiced
foods
in
summer
without
drinking
much
fluid
the
imbalance
would
become
greater
and
further
weaken
the
yin
BioChi
energies.
What are some YinYang examples in a person?
We
can
divide
the
body
or
the
person’s
complex
structures
and
dynamic
functions
into
sets
of
yin
yang
opposite
groupings.
The
skin
can
be
hotter
or
cooler.
The
fluids
can
be
thicker
or
thinner.
The
flesh
can
be
more
moist
or
dry.
The
mannerisms
can
be
more
extroverted
or
introverted.
The
person
can
be
more
resourceful
or
under-resourced.
A
chest
can
be
more
raised
or
sunken.
A
schedule
can
be
fuller
or
emptier.
The
hands
can
be
smoother
or
rougher.
The
flu
can
be
more
acute
or
more
chronic.
The
back
can
be
more
bony or fleshy. A muscle can be more flaccid or tight.
What is the main difference between other modalities and YinYang Needling?
We can diagnose and treat exclusively using yinyang science.
What is yinyang needling and how does it work?
YinYang
Needling
is
one
of
the
four
modalities
of
YinYang
Needling.
It
is
NOT
acupuncture.
We
needle
points
-
but
that
is
the
only
similarity.
It
is
based
on
old
sciences
that
are
not
found
in
Traditional
Chinese,
Japanese
or
modern
Medical acupuncture; or western dry needling.
YinYang
Needling
involves
the
insertion
of
fine
needles
into
specific
points
on
the
body
to
manipulate
the
balance
of
Yin
and
Yang
within
the
various
BioChi
energy
systems
of
the
body
to
bring
about
a
positive
therapeutic
effect.
When
we
needle
to
help
balance
the
BioChi
energy,
it
changes
the
make-up
of
even
the
core
energy
storage
system
and
strengthens
&
activates
the
body’s
own
recuperative-healing
systems;
enabling
the
person
to
overcome
illness
or
injury
faster
and
more
effectively.
It
is
especially
helpful
where
prolonged
or
gross
imbalance
(illness)
neutralises
healing
and
renders
the
body
incapable
of overcoming the imbalance.
Why haven’t I heard of it before?
There
is
currently
only
a
small
group
of
practitioners
who
have
experience
or
training
in
Yin
Yang
Needling…but
we
currently
have
a
large
group
of
practitioners in training.
If
YinYang
Medicine
is
so
old
has
there
been
any
recent
advancements
in
the
field?
There
have
been
a
lot
of
advances
on
the
last
30
years
thanks
to
the
work
of
our
master
practitioners.
We
constantly
improving
procedures.
Like
any
science-based
therapy,
practitioners
working
in
the
community
are
often
at
the
forefront of development as they struggle to new health trends and problems.
Are there practitioners available in my area who practice Yinyang needling?
Currently
we
have
practitioners
operating
clinics
at
Thornlands
Brisbane,
Pacific Paradise Sunshine Coast, Varsity Lakes Gold Coast, Byron Bay NSW.
Is it good as a preventive health measure?
Yes.
If
someone
receives
treatment
for
a
problem,
there
are
many
positive,
health & immune strengthening side-effect is.
We
are
also
very
honest
in
saying
we
cannot
out
treat
bad
habits.
Putting
into
action your practitioners advise is very important.
Can it help with modern diseases like diabetes or autoimmune diseases?
We
have
been
successful
in
treating
cases
of
diabeties
and
autoimmune
disease but not all.
What conditions does it help?
Pick
up
the
phone
and
tell
us
your
condition
and
ask
us
about
your
health
concerns.
